After waxing your back care
So waxing your back is for you – great, some planning to get your appointment at a salon, pay your money, endure the pain, and hey presto job’s done…. Right? Wrong! Unfortunately it is after you have had your body or back waxed that you really need to be proactive to keep that fantastic silky smooth feeling and keep your skin healthy.
To show you how to keep your skin healthy and looking good after a wax we need to briefly get technical. Below is a diagram of your skin and the hair growing through it.
Waxing removes the hair from the root. When the hair is gone the follicle remains open and therefore prone to infection.

Luckily the skin will close over your follicles soon after the wax. However, it is still important not to expose your open follicles to bacteria for at least a day after you have had a wax. Ideally avoid things like chlorinated pools, Jacuzzis, steam baths, saunas, or sunbathing.
Immediately after your wax your skin may be red and irritated, to help with the discomfort applying a soothing cream will help. Washing the skin on your back isn’t easy, and applying a cream to your own back is even harder, so try an applicator designed for applying product to your own back like the bareurback essential back strap. There are various creams you can use immediately after waxing, but if it burns too much bin it. A soothing depileze balm designed for men is a good start and can be used after waxing, shaving, or depilatory hair removal.
When you wax you remove the hair from the root, you also remove any dead skin. Your skin will close over the follicles soon after waxing, this can be a problem because the hair starts to grow again very soon after waxing. When it does grow it needs to break through the skin that has closed over the follicles, if the hair does not break through cleanly then ingrown hairs can eventuate or just the unsightly red bumps – both of which defeat the purpose of waxing to get a nice, clean, hair free back. So, to avoid these problems you should exfoliate – remove any skin closing over the follicles so that the hairs can break out cleanly. There are various products available to help you exfoliate but you should stick with a good quality exfoliating cream and something smooth to apply it with, again the bareurback essential back strap works here as the smooth pitted surface allows the cream to work, trapping the dead skin and dirt away from the skin while the cream is being massaged onto the skin. Avoid materials that are too abrasive – as you only end up with skin on your back that is red and aggravated, again defeating the purpose of waxing to get a healthy looking, hair free back.
